     Tears ran down Alain's face as she folded the note and placed it on Taki's father's desk.



      Counter sighed as he leaned against a nearby tree by the lake. He glanced at the clock and sighed. "What time is it?" He slid down onto the cool dew covered grass. "I hope Taki gets here soon." the sun was low in the sky and rising ever so slowly. Counter didn't get any sleep last night maybe he would rest up . . . no. He couldn't he was to restless jumping at every rustle and crack.

      Taki was running now; the sun slowly rising. The long stalks of dew covered grass brushed his ankles making him shiver. He was close now he could feel it. His legs were starting to feel like jell-o. He had walked this path many times to get to school, but never ran it. He started wobbling a bit he felt like he was going to topple over. Eventually his tiredness had overwhelmed him he had to take a break so he stopped and leaned onto the nearest building. Looking up he saw the clock.
      "I made it," he wheezed as he fell to his knees. "Counter!" He managed to cough the yell. With the sound of crunching grass he looked up and saw Counter approaching him.
     Counter looked down at Taki, "You're not used to running, and you're tired. We should go to where I spend my nights and rest."
     "That's wasting daylight," Taki coughed.
     "Trust me it's a lot safer to sleep at day around these parts," Counter spoke as he scooped Taki up in his arms.
